C. P. C. is pleased to
announce the formation of our NEXT Generation Wheel Division to design and
manufacture wheels which are of interest to our industry and our customers.
We currently have five designs in various stages of manufacture, all are to be
released by mid September.
The first wheel, which was released earlier this year is an up size 17”x 8”
Aluminum Ten Spoke style which is a larger version of the 14” x 6” Ten Spoke
originally offered as an option on 1966 Shelby Mustangs. Spokes are face cut to
highlight and contrast cast surfaces.
This high quality wheel takes
advantage of modern wheel and tire technology while maintaining a close likeness
to the original styling of the early Ten Spoke. The 17” x 8” Ten Spoke is
manufactured with backsets to be direct “bolt ons” for 1965-73 and 1994-2004
Mustangs.
The second wheel scheduled to be released next month, is an up size 17” x 8” SS
Style wheel which is a larger version of the 14” x 5” Styled Steel wheel
originally offered as an option on 1965-1967 Mustangs. This is a chrome plated
cast aluminum wheel with painted cove areas and stylized lug nuts. We can add
your choice of red or black 1965-66 style or blue or black 1967 style center
caps to suit your preference. This wheel truly captures the essence of the early
Styled Steel wheels and is sure to change the look of any Mustang in such a way
as can only be described as “extraordinary”. These wheels, like the 17 x 8 Ten
Spokes are supplied with 4.75 inch backset for 1964-1973 Mustangs and 5.30 inch
backset for the later models.
It is important to note that both
of these cast aluminum 17 x 8 inch wheels, though much larger than original
wheels, fit within the stock wheel wells and offer a considerable weight savings
over steel wheels. Autoworks
recommends BFG 225/45/17 and
215/50/17 tires on the 17 x 8's years -
'64½-'66.
There is a consideration, when developing these oversize wheels that not all
wheels look good when the design is stretched to a larger diameter. However, our
17 x 8 SS wheel turned out looking so good on the early Mustang and the later
1991 – 2004 Mustang, that we decided to make it in a 20 x 9 and 20 x 10 inch
version as well to fit the 2005-2007 models. These wheels will be for staggered
fitment and are hubcentric with a 70.7mm bore specifically for these Mustangs.
These 20 inch wheels accept the same red blue or black wheel centers as the 17 x
8 inch version and there simply is no other wheel that we’ve seen that looks as
good on one of these retro 05-07 Mustangs as our retro versions of the “Styled
Steel” wheels.
The original 14 x 6 inch Ten Spoke wheel used on 1966 Shelbys and Mustangs has
not been available for many years, and with the introduction of our 17 x 8 inch
Ten Spoke we received a number of inquiries regarding the 14 x 6 wheel. NXT
Generation’s Wheels is now reproducing a limited number of these 14 x 6 wheels
with stylized center caps, and they will be available later this year.
